Revalving
When the motorcycle manufactures design and build a motorcycle they use a single base setting in the suspension which will cover a wide range of riders. Here at JWR we can further tailor the damping settings as well as the spring rates to personally suit the individual rider and this based on their own requirements. A brief but informed consultation with each rider allows me to take into account factors such as their weight, height, ability, and purpose of use to determine the best damping and spring rates for the optimum set up.
General Servicing
Your suspension components should be regularly serviced to retain peak performance.
As the oil deteriorates within the forks and/or shocks the shims can deform, gas pressure may reduce, damping is lost and performance drops off. I therefore recommend that service intervals of between 10 and 20 hrs are carried out depending on use and level of competition. I personally disassemble, inspect and clean all internal and external components which allows me to check shims for damage and distortion and replace if necessary. I also check and surface all piston faces, check fork tubes and shock shafts for any marks or scratches and for straightness and will polish to remove any imperfections which will also reduce stiction. Once I am completely happy with this part of the process it is then all re bled with fresh oil and shocks are re bled on our vacuum machine for a perfect air fee shock. Finally clickers and preload are then focussed upon and set ready to race. All seals, bushes and other worn parts are always replaced with either genuine K-tech or Ohlins parts.
